October 1996

Oct 1st:

HEREFORD United 3 Scunthorpe 2

Oct 5th:

SCARBOROUGH 2 Hereford United 2

Hereford twice threw away the lead as Scarborough, who have lost just twice this season, battled back to grab a deserved point.

After both sides had created good chances, the home team went ahead when top scorer Hicks volleyed in from 12 yards.

But Brooke equalised from close range 13 minutes later after good work from veteran striker Ritchie.

Hereford's second goal midway through the second half was a lucky one. Foster turned on the edge of the box and his shot was palmed into the air by Ironside - only for the keeper to see the ball drop behind him into the net.

Scarborough levelled the scores just three minutes later when Ritchie's sweetly-struck half volley found the net.

After this game Chairman Peter Hill and manager Graham Turner were interviewed.

Oct 12th:

TORQUAY 2 Hereford United 1

Torquay had to pick themselves up after Norton put Hereford ahead in just 75 seconds. The equaliser finally came in first-half injury time through centre half Alex Watson.

Oct 15th:

MORE than 2,000 Brighton staged a non-violent protest during their League game against Hereford United by walking out of the game with 15 minutes left to play. The Bulls won the game 1-0 keeping Brighton at the bottom of the League

Oct 26th:

CHESTER 1 Hereford 3 (report from the People)

Hereford cashed in on some poor defensive work to send Chester crashing to their first home League defeat of the season.

It was a happy return to his old club for former Chester player Graham Turner - now the Hereford boss - as the visitors fully deserved the points.

Noteman put Chester in front on the quarter-hour mark when he volleyed home a pin-point cross from Davidson.

Then it all started to go wrong for Chester.

Hereford levelled soon afterwards when Hargreaves and Forsyth combined to create a chance for Foster, who scored with an angled shot.

Hereford's second came on the half-hour mark following a long throw from Law. He found Brough, who scored after the ball appeared to take a deflection.

United made sure of the points with just a quarter of an hour left.

Again it was Hargreaves who drifted clear on the left and found Foster in space for him to fire in his second.
